What we source
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia are known for agricultural quality, particularly in soft fruits, honey, herbs, dairy products, cured meats, and fruit-based preserves. We source packaged and bulk food products, fresh and frozen produce, dried herbs and spices, honey and bee products, dairy, and agricultural raw materials such as grains and legumes.
EU food safety compliance
Importing food into the Netherlands or Belgium requires navigating one of the most regulated documentation frameworks in global trade. We manage the full compliance process.
- EU sanitary certificates: Required for animal products, dairy, and processed meat. We work with the relevant Bosnian and Serbian food safety authorities to obtain the correct certificates before shipment.
- Phytosanitary certificates: Required for fresh produce, plant-based products, and agricultural raw materials. Arranged through the national plant protection organisations.
- HACCP compliance documentation: We verify that manufacturers hold valid HACCP certification and provide the supporting documentation for EU customs.
- Product labelling requirements: EU food labelling rules require specific information in Dutch. We coordinate labelling compliance with manufacturers before the first shipment.
- Border inspection posts: Food from third countries (Bosnia and Serbia are not yet EU members) requires inspection at designated EU border posts. We manage the advance notifications and paperwork.
Why Balkan food products
Balkan agricultural products often carry a provenance premium in Benelux specialty retail and ethnic food markets. Bosnian honey, Serbian berry preserves, and Balkan cured meats have established and growing audiences. Sourcing direct through a broker who understands the compliance requirements removes the main barrier that has historically prevented smaller producers from reaching Dutch and Belgian supermarkets.
